For New Year’s Eve, What Size is Your Little Black Dress Going to Be?

The season of eating has begun. From Halloween candy corn to New Year’s Eve egg nog, we will have Christmas and Hanukkah feasts and many parties in between – and that means weight gain. I have the solution at the end of this blog… Long term studies have shown that we gain a large proportion of our yearly weight gain over the holiday season, and more importantly that weight is NOT lost during the rest of the year. Magazine article, after blog entry, after nutritionist tip will tell you: 1) exercise more 2) drink less 3) eat less 4) try these low-calorie, low-fat (yucky) recipes 5) focus on socializing If anyone could follow these tips they would not be gaining weight over the holidays. If you gained weight last holiday season, if you gained weight during the 2014 holiday season, and the 2015 festivities… you probably can’t exercise more, drink less, eat less and focus on socializing – OR YOU WOULD HAVE. Last year during elementalyou the Get Skinny For the Holiday – a special group of 7 women started the SKINNY COACH SOLUTION DIET and together they lost over 100 pounds by the New Year (check them out). RIGHT NOW you can be part of the Get Skinny for the Holiday Group — How much will you lose by New Year’s Day? skinnycoach-black-dress

Treats, treats and treats

It’s October again! The leaves are falling and the winds are changing and the fields are ready to yield their abundance. Horror movies and spooky decorations pop up all over. Ghosts haunt suburban yards and zombies lurk at the mall.

But sufferers of food addiction, October is scary for a different reason. Huge bags of candy line the shelves of nearly every store and bowls of chocolates adorn the desks of receptionists everywhere. Sticky, marshmallow-y popcorn balls and gooey, chewy caramel apples suddenly appear, as if by magic. Super sugary pumpkin spice everything rises once again from the grave.

It always starts innocently enough. You buy a bag of candy for trick-or-treater. Maybe you have a piece or two when you bring it home from the store. Then a couple after work. Soon, the bag is empty and its not even October 26th. You buy more; this time you’re going to control yourself. But by Halloween, the candy is gone and you’re feeling ashamed. Or maybe, even more embarrassingly, you’ve stolen candy from your own children’s little plastic pumpkins. You thought, “Just one piece can’t hurt.” And before you know what’s happened, all the candy is gone. Then the guilt and shame take over.

You feel like a junkie; hiding your habit from your friends and loved ones. You know its bad for you. You know you need to quit, but you just keep going. You satisfy your carvings, but this only feeds the monster of addiction. That’s scarier than any horror movie.

Just like an alcoholic or a drug addict, you can’t control the way that sugar affects your brain. If you had a heroin habit, you wouldn’t be able to just have SOME heroin. Abuse over the course of your life has made moderation impossible. If you could have just one piece of candy, you would. But sugar has changed the way your brain works.

You feel powerless over food and can’t control what goes into your mouth. You read diet books and look for tips online but always end up binging again. Your behavior is making your life unmanageable. But just like with other addictions, you don’t have to go it alone! There is help. If you can’t stop eating junk, no matter how hard you try; if you can’t change your habits, even though you know it’s killing you, maybe it’s time to get professional help.

The Skinny Coach will help you break the cycle of food addiction. You will no longer be a slave to candy and sweets. You can change the way you interact with food. You can save your life!

As an incentive to start today, take the Sugar Quiz and set up your free consultation with Tiffany, the Skinny Coach. Be sure to ask about the special pre-Halloween offer.

Do you have a brain disorder?

Finally, what a relief, it has finally been proven by 80 experts – 80 experts involving a four-year long process that addiction is not a social or moral problem but a brain problem. Food addiction is a neurological problem. Addiction has been treated as a result of emotional problems, a result of trauma, a result of low moral character – and that is why addiction treatment does not work.

After over 20 years of neuroscience research we know that addiction is rooted in the brain’s reward circuitry. Previous experiences with food trigger cravings and to repeat the process because this is the part of the brain that controls impulses and judgement and it damage is permanent. Controlling this “craving” is literally over riding your brain chemistry. Distortions of cognitive and emotional function lead to compulsive need to intake more sugar It is NOT A CHOICE.

What is a choice is getting help. What kind of help can fix the neurological circuitry of the brain that is damaged? One thing we know for sure is abstinence is necessary. The only way to rewire the neural circuitry of the brain is to stop triggering the reward system. I understand that is easier said than done, I did it 20 years ago and I work with people every day to teach them the skills necessary to achieve abstinence and RE WIRE the neural circuitry – to fix the underlying neurological issue. Through a system of cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral modification techniques, along with daily talks with me, we can get you off of sugar, healthy and, of course, get the weight off. If you would like to know if you are addicted to sugar take the Sugar Addiction Quiz and you can have a complementary cognitive therapy session with me to get you started.

Addiction

The word addiction carries a lot of preconceptions. Most of us, when we hear the dirty word “addiction,” we think of a degenerate in a dark alley. One might be surprised at how widespread addiction truly is. Let’s discuss the addiction of a less obvious nature- sugar.

The definition of addiction is “a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences.” Broader than you might have imagined, isn’t it? When an alcoholic is “diagnosed” they are considered an addict for life. Even once they are off the alcohol, the call themselves a recovering addict. The reason is because they know that if they consume alcohol they will not be able to stop consuming, even if it hurts them. You’ll also find the literature on alcoholics state that they have a “disease” and they cannot help their lack of control in that area.

Now let’s talk about an addiction that is closer to home. Sugar addiction. When you eat sugar it lights up the same part of the brain as cocaine. Additionally, you are flooded with serotonin and other “feel good” hormones. You therefore, continue to consume the sugar because of the wildly enjoyable rewarding feeling that comes after you consume the sweets. As you continue doing this, repeatedly, day after day, you begin to feel the adverse consequences. You are tired, lethargic, sickly, and FAT. And yet, as shocking as it may seem, you (and your fat body) walk to the kitchen to consume more of this sickening and fattening drug.

You are addicted to sugar. You consume sugar regardless of the adverse consequences you experience. You can’t stop yourself. You have the disease known as sugar addiction. Just like if you were addicted to crack or alcohol you truly can never consume sugar again. As soon as you do you will lose control again! People say that as soon as you admit to yourself that you have a problem you can begin the road to recovery. Start your road to recovery now.

If you eat sugar, and you cannot control your intake, and you keep eating it after it has made you lethargic and fat, you are addicted. Don’t worry, now that you know, you can get help.

Do you watch TV and Eat?

You’re sitting on the couch and you’ve got your show all queued up. You immediately think “what am I going to eat?” Watching TV for most food addicts is what is known as a ‘trigger’ for their addictive activity (eating.) Alcoholics have triggers to drink, such as bars or certain people. Food addicts have triggers that are equally powerful and equally difficult to overcome. Often people think that the ability to only eat when you’re hungry and make healthy choices is simply an issue of willpower, but those people would be wrong. Sugar, one of the most highly addictive foods that a person can consume, actually stimulates the same part of your brain as cocaine; and not surprisingly leaves us with an insatiable need to feed that addiction.

This ‘power’ that food has can seem overwhelmingly and would leave anyone feeling helpless. In some ways you are powerless against sugar; of course, all of the foods that breakdown into sugar, such as, white flour. The major problem is that if you consume these foods, you will feel the need to consume more of them, and more, until you’re sick, tired and fat. The secondary problem is identifying where all of these sugars are! You would be shocked at all of the hidden places that you’ll find sugar, and the hidden names that sugar goes incognito under. The most surprising of all of these is the sugar, hidden under the name dextrose, in TABLE SALT!

I’ve now told you that sugar is as addictive as cocaine, and that once triggered you cannot control your food addiction, and finally that you likely won’t be able to find all of the hidden sugars in your food given they’re hiding under different names. That’s where the Skinny Coach Solution comes in; there is a way to free yourself from your addiction. Tiffany Wright, PhD, also known as the LA Skinny Coach, has spent her career helping people identify the foods that are making them fat and unhappy and then eliminate those foods. She uses a combination of intensive coaching, food planning and food elimination to help you succeed in rejecting your triggers and losing the weight that you’ve never been able to lose before. 4 Secret Costs of Being Fat

It’s no surprise that being overweight or obese has a negative effect on your health. From joint pain to diabetes, poor sleep to shorter life expectancy, being fat is just plain bad for you.

But did you know that being fat is costing you more than just your health? That extra weight is hurting your pocketbook and endangering your life in some unexpected ways, too.

1. Over-Priced for Over-Sized Clothes
If you’re an overweight woman, you probably struggle with self imagine issues. You don’t like the way you look and struggle to find clothes that fit. You might also notice that you’re paying more for clothes. Many stores charge as much as double for plus-sized versions of their normal sized clothes. Boutique stores catering to the huskier set can set their prices at astonishing levels, as the market for extra large clothing grows. In addition, these plus-sized options are often scaled incorrectly, leaving them too tight in the bust, too big in the hip and too short to be decent, meaning you’re paying extra for a worse product. And that’s if your favorite store even carries plus-sized clothing, at all! Recently, all the H&M locations in New York City removed their plus-sized sections to make room for home goods and told over-weight shoppers to take their business online. Target, too, offers only a minimal plus-sized department in store, directing their bigger customers to the website (with shipping costs included, of course). Wouldn’t you like to be able to purchase something off the rack and for a reasonable price?

2. Overweight and Underpaid
If you’re paying extra for plus-sized clothes, you should at least be getting paid more at work. But that is rarely the case. Overweight worker make less money, are less likely to get promotions or raises, and are less productive than their thin colleagues. This wage discrimination stems from fat people being seen as lazy and less disciplined. Overweight workers are less likely to be hired because they are seen as a drain on resources; their health care cost tend to be higher. In addition to the perception of plus-sized workers is the fact that obese people do miss more work than thin people, up to a week extra per year, due to illnesses and complications caused by their weight. So next time you’re passed over for that big promotion or you’re turned down for a job, ask yourself this: Is your fat holding you back?

3. More ass? More gas.
Overweight and obese drivers contend with another “fat tax” at the gas pump. Having 100 extra pounds in the car can decrease your car’s fuel efficiency by nearly 2%! That can add up to $30 extra dollars a year. Obviously, the more you weigh or the more you drive, those costs start to increase. In addition, bigger drivers want bigger car to comfortably get around. These cars get even worse gas mileage, costing you more in the long run. Can you afford to stay fat if gas prices go up?

4. Bigger driver, bigger danger
Paying more at the pump isn’t the only car issue your weight is cause: you are also more likely to die in an accident than a thin driver. Overweight drivers will sometimes skip the seat beat, as they are too uncomfortable. Even if you do buckle up, seat beats and airs bags are designed for average sized driver and are not as effective in protect overweight people. Crash test dummies used to test car safety haven’t change size since they were first used in testing, meaning auto-maker have no data when it comes to plus-sized drivers. Fat drivers are also at a higher risk for getting into accidents. Many overweight people suffer from sleep apnea, making it harder for them to get a restful night’s sleep which in turn makes them tired during the day. Studies have shown that drowsy drivers are just as dangerous as drunk driver. This deadly combination leaves just one question: Are you willing to take that kind of a risk with your life?

So knowing all this, what is your excuse for staying fat? It can’t be money; you’re losing more money by not losing the weight. The status quo is obviously more dangerous than the unknown. Why are you denying yourself the chance to be happy, healthy and wealth!

You owe it to yourself to take the first step toward being healthy. Become the Skinny Self you always knew you could be!

What Science Says about Losing Weight

Losing weight is not easy because by the time you are overweight your brain and your body bio chemistry has been altered permanently. By overeating sugar and flour you have literally changed the neurological structure of your brain and also damaged the hormonal systems that regulate hunger and fat storage. There must be a fundamental and complete change in intake and behavior and if YOU knew how to change your behavior, if you were able to change your behavior, you would not be overweight. Cognitive techniques and behavioral modification is a complicated science but when utilized effectively can actually solve the issue. You must identify and institute habits, stressors and situations that determine your behavior, you must develop strategies to avoid emotional eating and other eating triggers. You must institute plans, organization and structures that make it second nature to eat the correct foods. The brain and body can be re wired and fixed but it is not as simple as a diet. If you need help the Skinny Coach Solution not only is a health diet, not low fat, not low carb, free from processed foods that will help you lose a significant amount of weight fairly quickly – it is a set of techniques, skills, talk therapy, group support and behavioral re wiring that statistically is very very successful.
